Do you like eating hard boiled eggs?  My daughter and I really enjoy eating hard boiled eggs.  And as you know they can be messy, especially for a seven year old!  And she doesn’t like to eat the yokes!  I don’t mind the yoke every once in a while, but it is just fat!  We were roaming around in the grocery the other day and came across the Eggies system.  I am not big on buying as seen on TV products but Alexis sold me on this one.

So, I purchased the Eggies system after being talked into it by the munchkin.   She had really good arguments as to why we should purchase this as seen on TV item!  The best one I heard was “I won’t get egg shells all over the floor anymore momma!”  (She knows just how to melt my heart!)  It was a done deal at that point!  I know it; I am such a sucker!

When we got home, Alexis cleaned the new little gadgets!  She likes doing the dishes at this point in her life, I am going to totally take advantage of this in any way that I can!  After the Eggies were cleaned we had to cover each piece with cooking oil and then began to fill them.  Now, this systems has a  lot of parts.  Top, bottom, lid, and collar.  I put them together and then I let Alexis crack and fill some with yokes and I filled the Eggies with her eggs, removing the yokes of course. Removing the yokes is such a mess to do but we made it through.  Then we plopped them in the pan of boiling water and waited for the results.

To my surprise there was a disaster in the pan!   The collar on the Eggies was screwed on tight enough or properly because they all came open except one.  It was a mess.  We allowed the one to finish cooking and allowed it to cool down.  We unscrewed the collar and pulled off the top and plopped it over…it didn’t come out like it is suppose to.  And this was a yoke-less egg because it was half the size of a real boiled egg.  I popped it with a spoon and on to the taste test!    They taste exactly the same to me as a regular hard boiled egg! I think removing the yoke changes the flavor slightly.

I didn’t like the results of this product so far so I tried it again.  Guess what, they did it again!  It is such a mess to clean up too! I am very disappointed.  I thought it was absolutely ridiculous to purchase and I was absolutely right.  I thought the first time that this happened was because I did something wrong but the second time I did this, I went step by step and they still popped open.  The collar can only be tightened so far and the boiling of the water must wiggle this loose somehow.

I definitely find it easier to boil eggs the old fashioned way.  I know they can be messy at times but with a little patience they will turn out much better than the eggies.  I prefer to bake them in the oven.  I bake my eggs for 25-30 minutes in a muffin pan on 325 degrees.  This makes them easier to peel.

The eggies system was a lot of hassle, clean up and wasted eggs.  I didn’t care for the work involved with the eggies system and I wouldn’t recommend it.  If you have this system and feel differently about it please let me know.

  1. That is good information. I don’t mind peeling my eggs, but I have never tried baking them. I will have to give this a try. It seems like you make them exactly the same each time and sometimes those shells are really stubborn. Plus I always end up dropping one egg too hard in the pan and it cracks. So good tip on the baking.

    • Thank you. I started baking my eggs because I also drop at least one way to hard into the pan and it cracks open. Baking them seems to be a lot easier.
